A geoscientist must have unlimited curiosity, unbounded energy, a vivid imagination, a flair for adventure, the desire to travel, an enjoyment of mathematics and science, and a desire to utilize the earth's resources in an environmentally sound manner. If you have many of these attributes, you are wellsuited for a career in geosciences. GEOLOGISTS comprise the largest group of geoscientists. They are specialists working in such diverse fields as mineralogy (minerals), paleontology (fossils), petrology (rocks), economic geology (metallic ores such as gold and silver), petroleum geology (oil and gas), environmental geology, geomorphology (surficial processes), engineering geology, geophysics (earthquakes and oil exploration) and hydrogeology (ground water) to name a few. A B.S. Degree in Geology, or geology courses in conjunction with an education degree, provide additional opportunities for the geoscientist. |
