Integrated Science Curriculum Poster Series

Integrated Science Curriculum Personnel

Principal Investigators:
Jenna Carpenter, Academic Director of Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, represents the College of Engineering and Science. She serves as the PI on this project, responsible for the overall management of the program, including oversight of budgets and preparation of all required reports. In addition, she assists with the revision of the mathematics courses. She has experience in both of these areas, having been a co-developer of the mathematics sequences for the NSF-funded Integrated Engineering Curriculum at Louisiana Tech, as well as having served as the PI on a state enhancement grant to develop and implement exploratory computer labs for multivariable calculus.

Wesley Colgan, Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences/Environmental Science, has been instrumental in re-vamping freshman biology laboratories at Louisiana Tech to focus on inquiry-based learning. He oversees the 5-course laboratory/research science backbone series and assists with the integration of the freshman biology course and lab.

Dawn Basinger, PK-16 Coordinator, represents the College of Education. She assures that sound standards-based education and evaluation practices are used throughout the curriculum and that all curricula meet requirements of state and national standards for teacher preparation.

Senior Personnel:
Bernd Schröder, Program Chair and Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, coordinates the use of mathematics in context. He served as co-PI on the NSF-funded Integrated Engineering Curriculum grant.

Lee Sawyer, Associate Professor of Physics, supervises the integration of the physics courses and labs. He has been instrumental in the development of the Integrated Engineering Curriculum physics curricular material.

Danny Eddy, Instructor of Chemistry, supervises the integration of the chemistry courses and labs. He has actively taught and contributed to the development of the Integrated Engineering Curriculum chemistry sequence.

Linda Ramsey, Director of the Center for Educational Excellence and Professor of Biology, assists with biology labs and coordinates the project evaluation. She has served as an evaluator on numerous NSF-funded projects and has been heavily involved with in-service training for biology teachers.

Glenn Beer, Director of the NASA Resource Center, advises on educational aspects. Mr. Beer’s background is in secondary mathematics education;

Cheryl Sundberg, Assistant Professor of Education, is in secondary science education. She also advises on educational aspects of the project.

Bill Jordan, Program Chair and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, active instructor in the Integrated Engineering Curriculum, consults on the development of physics laboratory materials. Dr. Jordan also has experience as co-PI on an ongoing NASA project focusing on improving problem-solving skills in pre-service teachers.
